Mom is “Wow” Spelled Upside Down:

On a day like today where we honor the ones dearest to us, we need to remember not only the special times shared, but also all the thankless moments that got us to where each of us stand today.

No matter if your mother was “the tops” above the rest, or one who worked to just keep the family afloat … your mother is why you are here today.

As a child my mom stayed home with us for the most part. She was and still is a private health chef. Every now and again she would have a cooking gig or an odd end job but for the most part she was there.

As a kid she was a friend and not the best enforcer when it came to rules. She would yell and warn when we were being awful little girls who fought each other over clothes, and being a tag-a-long and stuff like that. But for the most part she was just “Mom” … or “Mommy” when we needed anything, “Mommy please!” … “Mommy!

I LOVE MY MOM! She has given us all that she could give and always struggled to give us what all the other kids had. That wasn’t easy but she sure tried.

Every night my Mom would make us a three course meal made from scratch. A lot of the times it would begin with a homemade soup (leak potato, corn chowder, udon and vegetable, vegetarian split pea …). Then we would have our vegetarian entree piled high on our plates (chick pea stew, vegetarian shepherds pie, tofu stir fry, sticky rice, beans and vegetables, spaghetti and homemade marinara sauce) YUM!

We were always fed well. Lunches weren’t the most common because of our vegetarian macrobiotic upbringing. We’d have a tofu and bean-sprout sandwich on whole wheat pita or when we introduced fish into our diets we’d take tuna with crackers and a fruit leather and carrot sticks.

I loved it. My older sister, Becky, hated it. All she wanted was a white bread sandwich with grape jelly and skippy peanut butter on it like the other kids.

I say potatoes she says tomatoes. Oh well.

Anyway, we turned out smashingly … and it’s because of our unique childhood and the love that was there in between the yelling and screaming that came along with a household of six.

Mom I love you today and everyday. You did a great job!

Going to the chapel … and she’s gonna get married:
Yep my big sister is tying the knot … and her wedding is less than a month away. On June 2, 2012 Rebecca Anne Ingram will become Mrs. Werket.
That’s right Becky you “work-it” girl!
Here’s the highlights from her “Bridal Shower” leading up to her big day. Becky’s “A-Team” has set the bar high for anyone looking to make the most out of their engagement.
Take a look at the all the great memories from her Bridal Shower at Villa Barone Italian Restaurant in Collingswood, NJ:

Here’s “The A-Team” … AKA: The Bridesmaids
Below Left to Right:
Me “Malinda”, Rachel, Becky “Bride-to-Be”, Lisa, Carrie and Angela

Becky was super surprised when she arrived:

But of course she would be. Take a look at how many great things the “A-Team” created for her shower.

Above is a basket called a “Wishing Well” for Small Kitchen Gadgets:
Below is one of the tables beginning to fill up with larger gifts:

Here’s Becky saying hello to everyone:

It looks like everyone really had a great time:

Below left to right: Irene, Becky, Cathy, Mom-Mom “Jean” and Becky again

Below left to right: Becky (future aunt to bride), Mom “Susan”, Carol (future Mother-in-Law to bride), Lillian and again “Mom/Susan”

Time for the cake cutting:

Look at the beautiful scrapbook Lisa made for Becky and the photo everyone is signing for her as a keepsake:

Here’s some cute “bridal stuff” that Becky got … a bridal tee to wear on the “big day” while getting dressed, from Rachel, it says “The Future Mrs Werket” and a customized hanger for her wedding dress that says “Mrs Werket” from Angela:

Look at the great give-a-ways I made for everyone to take home as a keepsake. It’s a customized chocolate bar from Sarris’s Chocolate in Pittsburgh, PA:

And what shower would not be complete without a hat made out of all the bows from the gifts? Also, this “truly special hat” that I made with a lot of conviction will double as a bouquet for her wedding rehearsal the night before the wedding:

Becky we hope you enjoyed all the hard work we put into your shower. It was a lot of fun for all of us.

Above left to right “The True A-Team”: Becky’s BFF’s and Bridemaides …Carrie, Angela, and Lisa … Her maid-of-honor and sister, Rachel, and Me … her sister and bridesmaid “Malinda” … And then of course, last but not least our mom “Susan”:
Below: One last family pic and this shower is complete:

Above: Me “Malinda” Younger Sister and Bridesmaid to the Bride. Next, the Bride-to-Be “Becky. After that is the Maid-of-Honor & Younger Sister “Rachel …. Plus in Photo on Right in addition to everyone I mentioned there is also our Mom “Susan”
Hope it was a blast Becky. We love you and May You Live Happily Ever After.
